The Quebec government just announced it would provide up to $573 a week to those who have to isolate themselves at home and don’t have access to unemployment. For now, the program applies to workers that: have the virus, have symptoms of the virus, have been in contact with someone that has the virus, and just came back from abroad.

The program (PATT or Programme d’aide temporaire aux travailleurs) could represent $150 million for the Quebec government if 10% of workers are affected in one way or another by the coronavirus.

This temporary solution will not be covering any employment loss that could be caused by the pandemic and only concerns workers that have to isolate themselves, for the time being. According to Francois Legault, the Federal government should be announcing a plan to increase the amounts one could be getting from unemployment in this extreme situation.

More information to come in the next few days.
