As Quebec now counts 19,319 cases of COVID-19, an increase of 962 cases since just yesterday, François Legault announced schools would not reopen May 4th as originally planned. Quebec now counts 939 deaths related to the virus and 198 patients are still in intensive care.
According to him, the province will not reopen schools in the short-term and it will take another couple of weeks before any official announcement is made about the rest of the school year. Once they decide on a date, it will take at least two weeks for schools to plan their reopening.
François Legault also stated they do not exclude any scenario, answering a reporter’s question about possibly reopening schools only in September.
The province of Quebec will make sure public health protocols are followed the moment schools reopen.
